Image-Line has been busy updating their digital audio workstation FL Studio. Version 9.5 is now in beta state, and me amongst other FL Studio users have had an opportunity to test it. I must say it has a bunch of cool improvements. For me, the piano roll transport control was the one I’ve been waiting for a long time. Now it’s here and it definetely ease my music production process. But there are tons of other improvements as well such as 64 bit plugin support, improved audio options and lot more. Check out this Image-Lines official video for more updates and changes:

Here’s one of my tracks I’m currently working on in my studio. It’s dance / techno / trance and hopefully I’m able to finish it pretty soon. Enjoy the preview!

I’m working on a tutorial where I’m trying to show you step-by-step how I create a song from scratch using Fruity Studio – from selecting the drum sounds to composing to polishing. There’s going to be a lot of images, videos and text where I show each step thoroughly. It’s going to take some time, but I’ll post it in the Tutorials -category when done. Please subscribe to my blog HERE to keep yourself updated.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned it, but I also play keyboards in a band called “The Red House”. We play all kinds of stuff from jazz to funk to reggae to pop to a unknown style and what we’ve been lacking so far is a proper gear for demo-level recordings. So far we have been using Zoom H4 & H2 field recorders – which are great for recording straight from the air – but for decent demos there needs to be a some sort of multitrack recorder with ability to tweak levels track-by-track so we decided to get the Zoom R16 digital recorder from Thomann. We haven’t tested it in a live recording session yet, but I played around with it by myself and it seems to be a really straightforward and easy-to-learn recording device with good sound quality. Can’t wait to test it in a real recording session!
For more info about the Zoom R16 check out here: http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=2009
EDIT: After couple of demo-recording sessions with the band, I must say this device is well worth it’s price. It’s easy to use, sound quality is good and the controls are straightforward. I’ll post a demo recording from our jam session later on. I can recommend this device for band recordings.

Couple of weeks ago I submitted two of my tracks for evaluation via musicsubmit.com. Here’s a clip where Dre McKenzie (Head A&R of G-Unit Records) and Dino Delvaille evaluates two of my tracks. First one is “Can You Tame The Wind” and second is “Look At The Bright Side”. I did this for fun, but still it was very exciting to hear how two hiphop mogules review my music! Enjoy the video!

Today was a good day: when I woke up I started producing a and just a few minutes ago I finished a new song! I think it belongs in a chill-out genre (again). It’s been a while since my last finished song so I can say I’m happy I got it this far
Please, listen it and leave a comment how you liked it!
You can download the whole song from here: http://petrisuhonen.com/muz/Petri_Suhonen_-_Can_You_Tame_The_Wind.mp3
Or listen it on youtube:

Just got my new PC couple of days ago and I’m more than happy with it! This is much more powerful system for audio work than I excpected! It’s fast, stable and thanks to 24″ widescreen I can see everything in full now(I used to have 17″ CRT monitor and I couldn’t even see the bottom of most of my VSTi’s). Also, my first taste of Win7 is that it seems Microsoft has got it right this time
Kudos!
This new system gives a whole lotta more possibilites for my music projects and makes it much more easier to do things. I’m very happy! ![]()
